Style guides exist to provide uniformity in writing, citing and document formatting in scholarly papers. Following a standard guide ensures that your paper is professional-looking and readable.

Different fields of study often use different style guides.  The decision tends to reflect the priorities and preferences of the scholarly journals published in that field. At APUS, the style guide you must use is determined by the academic program in which a given course resides.
