American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language     The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language is just one of many dictionaries available in the Trefry Library.  Read on to learn how you can find more.

Our library has plenty of dictionaries to choose from, and Credo Reference is a good place to find them.  Credo linked on the library's Databases page and in the RESEARCH menu.

1.  On the Credo homepage, click the menu icon in the top left corner.

2. Click Titles.

3. Look for the Filter Options on the right side of the screen.

  • For general English-language dictionaries, use the All Subjects drop-down menu to select Dictionaries & Thesauri (you'll see it listed under General Reference).  The titles should automatically reload.
  • For bilingual dictionaries, use the All Subjects drop-down menu to select Bilingual Dictionaries (you'll see it listed under General Reference). The titles should automatically reload.
  • For subject-specific dictionaries, use the All Subjects drop-down menu to select a subject. Then type the word "dictionary" into the search box and click search.

You can also find dictionaries when you search the library for books.  Search for keywords like these depending upon what kind of dictionary you need:

  • business dictionaries
  • health dictionaries
  • biographical dictionaries
