Q. How can I use generative AI to help me with research and writing?

Generative AI (genAI) tools like Copilot or Google Gemini can quickly provide you with an overview of a huge variety of subjects, which can be helpful as you are beginning a research project.  However, while AI has a lot of promise as a research tool, there are some risks to using AI in your college and career projects. 

Librarians have created a concise list of potential uses (and potential pitfalls) of AI in Research and Writing.

Remember these rules of thumb: 

• GenAI can help you think or write about your research - but it should never think or write for you. 
   
• Always be transparent about how you've used genAI in your work.
  • See how to cite AI tools.  
  • See how to show your work when you're writing a paper.
