Typhon Implementation

The Typhon student practicum tracking software will be implemented in to the Nursing, Public Health and Health Informatics programs. Typhon allows faculty the ability to keep track of documents, practicum hours, and communication. It also allows the preceptor to view and approve hours as submitted. This will eliminate the need for students to get hour logs signed and uploaded during the practicum experience.  Typhon offers the ability to develop the students' professional portfolio and access the system for 5 years.

For all programs, there is a one-time $100 fee for the student, which students will pay directly to the Typhon group.

For Nursing, this fee will be required at the point in the student life cycle where they are ready to begin securing a practicum site with the assistance of the Practicum Coordinator.  This site will be used to securely collect all forms and track expiration dates related to the practicum experience and is required before NURS695/696. Students retain access to their Typhon portfolio after graduation and may use this as a professional advancement tool.

Prior to reaching the point of preparing for practicum, the students will be informed of the Typhon requirement in multiple ways:

  • In the MSN Orientation Powerpoint that is located in the first NURS course, NURS502
  • In the Nursing Student Handbook that is located in every course
  • In an initial 1:1 student/faculty mentoring session as part of the standing agenda
  • In an upcoming quarterly email message to all NURS students
