Students retain all intellectual property rights to their own original work.
If there are images associated with your paper, you may need to obtain rights to those images. Some journals will help you with this process, and others will require you to do the leg work yourself. That information will be found in the submission guidelines for the journal/magazine you are interested in.
If your paper is published, most publications will own the rights to the printed version (with their editing/layout), but you will still own the rights to the pre-print version.
